GW Law Professor Neil H. Buchanan has been keeping his eyes closely on the road to the 2016 presidential election. The economist and tax law professor has written a series of opinion pieces for Newsweek. In an October 1 piece, Buchanan shared his political analysis, "Are the Fact Checkers Being Too Hard on Hillary?"
In an attempt to seclude himself from each party's campaign spin on the first presidential debate, Professor Buchanan says he kept away from the media in order to write a fair and accurate assessment.
"I not only did not read or listen to any of the debate-related commentary before writing down my thoughts, but I also did not read the fact checkers' analyses of the debate."
Nevertheless, Professor Buchanan says his evaluation of the outcome of the debate seemed to mirror the public's consensus that Hillary Clinton came out the victorious contender against her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. Despite this, he questions the validity of the political fact checkers and whether the media was balanced.
