Stephanie Sauer is currently serving as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Solicitor General for the District of Columbia through the Charles F. C. Ruff Fellowship, a year-long program designed to promote public interest legal work within the District. There, she represents the District and its agencies in appellate litigation before the DC Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Sauer worked in nonprofit fundraising for nearly seven years, securing institutional support for youth-serving financial literacy and civic education programs.

Ms. Sauer received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, Environmental Studies, and East Asian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School. At GW, she served as the Volume 93 Editor-in-Chief of the George Washington Law Review and Co-President of the Equal Justice Foundation. She was also a Senior Moderator for the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Brief and a Writing Fellow with the GW Law Writing Center.

Ms. Sauer co-teaches the Administrative Law, Issues, and Appeals Clinic—of which she was a student attorney herself in 2025—and assists students in exploring legal issues of national public interest before federal agencies and federal appellate courts and in drafting amicus briefs.
